when you visit us in the cairns shop you will notice we have adopted the "bleeding heart" tree (homalanthus nutans or omalanthus populifolius) as our shop logo. these fast growing pioneer trees are a first step in rainforest regeneration - seeds lay dormant until the canopy is broken by a tree fall. they provide quick shade for slower growing rainforest plants and can grow up to several metres a year. their large green heart shaped leaves turn a rich red just before they fall. they are an important host plant for australia's largest moth coscinocera hercules - the hercules moth - and the abundant seeds also feed many forest birds. we feel the world needs lots of bleeding hearts as well as greenies - and we are proud to be called either or both.

55 spence street cairns - has been our home since September 2004. this old building has in its past been, among other things, an illegal card club!

our trading hours occasionally need to change ... to allow for staff holidays, weddings and honeymoons! we will always give advance notice of changes. our trading times are a bit longer in December in the lead up to Christmas.
